Dupion Silk
About Collection
A Legacy of Elegance
Dupion Silk is produced by reeling silk fibers from two silk worms, therefore it has some irregularity in sheerness or weight. The bands or shadings is characteristic of dupioni silk fabric. The black specks which occasionally appear in dupion silk fabric are part of the original cocoon of the silkworm and should not be considered as defects in weaving. The horizontal lumps, bundles of threads, and dark fibers, called slubs, add texture and visual interest to the fabric. These will be present throughout any silk dupioni item and are not mistakes or “damage” to the fabric.
Dupioni is often woven with differing colors of threads scattered through the warp and weft, giving the fabric an iridescent effect. It can be woven into plaid and striped patterns, floral or other intrinsic, intricate designs. Dupioni silk which means “double” is a natural textured silk, making it a prized possession
