Bandej Ghatchola
About Collection
A Legacy of Elegance
The Ghatchola or Gharchola is an auspicious wedding staple from Gujarat and Rajasthan. Literally, it means ‘home apparel’ but connotes to the bride’s new avatar and home. The design is known as ‘phulwari’ or garden and where animal motifs predominate it is known as ’shikari’ which means hunting scene. Ghatchola saris originated in Khambat, the most important trading centre of India in the 13th century and is popular for its grid pattern in zari.
It is an ensemble of love that is also an heirloom, known for its intricate designs and spectacular colour combinations. The Ghatchola is worn by women for their marriage ceremony as it has a cultural significance in Western India – it is considered to be auspicious..
